Published:March 09, 2023DOI:https://doi.org/10.1016/j.apmr.2023.01.026
With great interest I read the recent article by Elshafey and Alsakhawi on their research into the potential benefit of exercise training in children with Down Syndrome.1 Their article did a masterful job in describing the potential benefits of training on the many physiologic issues that may complicate life in this population, with a special emphasis on respiratory issues unique to the Down pediatric population.2 While a small but well-done study, their statistical results demonstrate the potential value of such programs on the health and overall wellness of children with Down syndrome. These children of course grow into adults, facing health risks unique to that population and methods to reduce those risks are worth pursuing.
