Impaired generation of an internal rhythm (or ‘beat') is hypothesized to underlie
the irregular timing of gait and speech in Parkinson disease (PD; Freeman, Cody &
Schady, 1993). Here, we test this hypothesis by determining whether individuals with
PD favor a non-beat, as opposed to beat-based, listening strategy for auditory rhythms
compared to controls.
